Quotation Links
Seneca said,"I shall never be ashamed to quote a bad author if what
he says is good." Well, Seneca didn't have access to the Internet but
you do. There are hundreds of thousands of quotation sites dedicated
to every topic imaginable. These are some of my favorites. Many sites,
like All About.com, will lead you to countless others. After a short
time I'm sure you'll find quotes; both good and bad.
The mother of all quote compilations can be found at About.com. This "Human
Internet" guide site has thousands of links to quite sites, books
and other related information.
Annabelle's
Quotation Guide has a search engine to browse by topic or
author. There's lots of other fun quote related links on this
site.
Bartleby.com What
list of quotation sources would be complete without Bartlett's
quotation? According to their site, "This tenth edition of 1919
contains over 11,000 searchable quotations and was the first new
edition of John Bartlett˙s corpus to be published after his death
in 1905Üthe new editor, however, choosing more to supplement than
revise the work of the first name in quotations." The site includes
a chronologic index of authors , an alphabetic index of authors
and a concordance index to quotations..
BrainyQuote.com
is a searchable database filled with 35,000 quotes by 8,000
authors You may also browse by the author's last name.
The
Comedy Zone Need to find some funny quotes? Need to find
them quickly? Visit Funny Quotes at the Comedy Zone. The quotes
are listed by topic in this attractive, easy-to-read site. A
searchable database would make the site even better, but if you
need humorous quotes, visit The Comedy Zone.
Cyber
Nation has a large database containing over 13,000 quotations
indexed by subject. There's not a search engine but you'll still
want to visit the site.
Movies can be an excellent source for finding the right quote
for your project. The
Internet Movie Database is a huge site with over 11 million
hits a week. Did Humphrey Bogart really say, "Play it again, Sam?" Find
out by typing those words into the search box. Make sure you pull
down the menu to search. I'll let you in on a secret. Bogart's
character never said what has become a popular misquotation. Neither
did Ingrid Bergman. The Internet Movie Database will show you similar
lines from that movie. This is a fantastic site for movie quotations.
